Sylvia is a Counsellor at Think Psychological Services. Her qualifications include a Master of Social Sciences in Counselling and a Bachelor of Psychology from Australia.
Sylvia’s professional experience include one-to-one and group counselling, support group facilitation and crisis support for clients from diverse backgrounds. She has worked in private practice; government agencies and community-based family services helping clients restore hope, build resilience and imbue self-empowerment.
Sylvia is experienced in working with individuals, couples and families struggling with relationship and communication difficulties.
Sylvia has supported LGBTQ clients seeking a safe space where they feel understood and accepted, to develop meaningful relationships. She has worked with clients who have encountered history of trauma, family violence and addictions.
Sylvia’s strength-focused approach to counselling has been influenced by the Satir Transformational Systemic Therapy. With the belief that all people are equipped with the capacity for growth and transformation, Sylvia works to build upon her client’s potential and strengths. She works collaboratively with her clients to create a rich and meaningful life, while effectively managing the challenges that life inevitably brings.
Sylvia has also been involved in staff development through clinical supervision, training and mentoring of counsellors and social workers in the areas of community mental health, addiction and family violence.
